During the 18th National Education Conference held at Phuentsholing from 9-12 December 2016, an appeal was made to all DEOs and TEOs to explore ways to reduce the weight of student backpacks.

Based on the review of Geography curriculum and the feedback received during the National School Curriculum Conference, some changes have been effected in the curriculum.
The 18th National Education Conference resolved that students must compulsorily pass in Dzongkha for promotion to the next higher class.
As per the resolution of the 18th National Education Conference, Environmental Studies (EVS) has been infused into Dzongkha and English curriculum for classes PP to III.
